I can make DECISIONS based on evidence...
XONR8
During my junior year of high school, I worked on a project called XONR8. This project was one of my favorites because it required maturity and responsibility. We got to work with the California Innocence project which is an organization that helps inmates who feel as if they have been wrongly convicted by overlooking their cases. The California Innocence project usually gets cases who's clients are serving life sentences with no chances of getting out without the case being brought back to court. For this project we needed to make a decision on whether or not we thought the case needed to be overlooked. My group and I reviewed the legal documents and evidence on our decision.
I believe the entire project demonstrates the mastery. I read the entire case and made the decision based on what the evidence said. On thing I did find difficult while working on this was realizing how serious this was. I needed to do the right thing and make sure I reviewed everything before I made a decision. Having to do my work at such a high level was also a bonus because it made me realize that I can do it. |

RACISM and Inequality Position Paper
|
During my time in Model United Nations, I had to compose various amounts of positions papers. Out of all the papers I had written in MUN I feel as if this demonstrates my mastery of being able to make decisions off of evidence. To write this postilion paper I needed to do research on the country and how the topic affects them. For this position paper in general, I looked at a lot of credible sources to get pose my country's position. I personally believe that in my last paragraph I can show my mastery. That is where I stated my country’s final position.
This work was challenging for the reason being of I only had the internet as a resource. Therefore I had to make sure all of my sources were credible. I am most proud of the hard work I put into getting to know this country and seeing what they would do in the predicament posed. |
I can craft a compelling piece of writing...
Choose Your Own Adventure
During my junior year, I got to write a story through the perspective of an African American man living during the Great Migration and World War I. I believe this piece shows my mastery in being able to write a compelling piece of writing because I had to think like a man living in the 1900’s would think. I don’t think there is a certain part where I am showcasing this more, I believe the entire piece altogether is compelling. The piece shows my ability to think outside the box and be creative.
This work was very challenging because I had to think through the perspective of a black male living in the 1900’s. I had no clue what life would’ve been of for a man living in this time period. I am most of proud of this piece altogether, but for the most part I am most of proud of how creative I was in this piece. I will highlight the sections of endings because I spent a lot of time making it sound as realistic and dramatic as possible. |

Pro Death Penalty
|
This piece is compelling because I had to argue for something that is very controversial. It is also compelling because I had to make people agree with me. I had to make this very persuasive and made sure I was not giving off the wrong thing. I would say I am demonstrating this mastery in my last paragraph. In the last paragraph I made sure I said my point and clarified the points in my argument. One thing that was challenging in this was having to argue for a side I did not stand for. Another thing that was challenging was having to argue for something. I do not like arguing in general so that made writing this even more difficult. I am most proud of how much I was able to get out of my comfort zone and stand for something I do not believe in.

I can master a difficult skill...
Internship; Responsibility
During my internship, I lived in the real world of the life of an assistant pathologist at Seaworld. For the month of my internship I had to commute through heavy traffic every morning and afternoon, learn different organ names, and complete the task correctly because of their scientific importance. I believe I showed this mastery throughout my entire internship. I became a more responsible person because I was trying to leave the best impression on my internship site. One thing that was difficult during my internship was having to memorize and learn things quickly. Having an internship that was always taken up by college students was both a good thing and a bad thing. The standards for my mentors were entire too high or too low. I am most proud of all the work that I did for my internship. I have never felt more accomplished after doing something. I do not think there is a certain part of my internship I’d like to highlight because the entire experience was a learning experience.

Collaboration
Collaboration has been a struggle for me to overcome my entire high school career. I have never liked having to depend on other people to do their part of the work or doing all the work for someone to get the same grade as me. I’ve demonstrated tolerance to collaboration my entire high school career. High Tech High unfortunately forces students to work with other people. Trying to tolerate working with other people has been a struggle because I prefer to work alone. I am most proud of this because this has been something difficult to at least tolerate.
