How did the exhibition go?The exhibition at the museum was better than I expected. Strangers got to experience our art pieces for the first time. I would have never expected the exhibition to go as well as it went.
Artist StatementThe saying don’t judge a book by its cover is very powerful, it shows how what appears fine on the outside may have something cruel and evil internally or something spectacularly magnificent. Prison appears normal on the outside, a plain colored building surrounded by gates and security, but who knows it could be an airport. Take it from a foreigner's perspective, a bunch of humans behind caged bars being forced to obey the commands of a superior other. A normal looking man or woman, who has been internally rotting and becoming mentally unstable. Having anxiety attacks from being caged in a cell like an animal, only going outside a day for one hour. Eating the same cardboard tasting food everyday for the rest of your time in prison. Turning into a time bomb that’s about to explode. You've officially lost your humanity.
Our art piece is very simple but has a very symbolic and deep meaning. The tiny puppet can only move by being controlled by a person who is more superior than the puppet. Being half animal half human is showing how prison can make you lose your humanity, but there is always hope. |
