Historical CYOA Reflection:
Writing Often:
During this project, I found myself writing more than I ever had before. I wrote my entire story which took a lot of work. Before I became a copy editor, I worked on my story at school very often. Once I got assigned the job of a copy editor, I focused my attention on other people’s writing. Once I realized I had neglected my writing, I balanced my time between other people’s and mine. Therefore during this project I feel as if I excelled in this area.
Sharing Writing with Others for Response:
In the Historical CYOA project, I didn’t really have to force myself to share my writing with others because it was already intertwined into the project. Although I really dislike sharing my writing, I realized that if I shared my writing it would become the best it could be. I also feel as if I excelled in this area because of my content approver, Jorge, and copy editor, Faith.
Attending to the Writing of Others:
In this area I feel as if I went above and beyond because I was a copy editor. I had never edited anyone else’s work as much as I did during this project. My job as a copy editor was difficult, but it taught me many things I did not know about writing and myself. I learned that I was making many grammar mistakes without knowing I was making them. I also learned that I like to help people and during this project I felt content by being able to help my peers have the correct grammar and punctuation. I also began to get a bit carried away by trying to help some people in my group with their content. I wasn’t very satisfied with the way their stories written and I began to ask them to change this. I was disappointed when they refused to fix the problems, so I found myself re-writing their opening and choices. Once I began to re-write it myself, I realized that revising their content wasn’t my job. This realization made me a bit frustrated and disappointed.
Revising and Writing Multiple Drafts:
This CYOA Project has made me realize the importance of revision. I had never revised so much of my own writing before and it was very surprising to see the results after I had re-written them so many times. I am extremely proud of my results and will continue to revise all of my work. Even when I was revising other people’s work, I saw the difference minor changes can make.
Communicating Thoughts to an Audience:
I think I did very well communicating my thoughts to an audience. With the help of my content approver, Jorge, I was very descriptive in showing and not telling. I was not used to doing this before, but after listening to his advice I saw the huge difference it can make. It can also make your reader become more entertained with your story.
